Next-generation trading bands that use institutional EWMA volatility models to automatically widen in ranges and adapt to market trends.

Most band indicators (like Bollinger) rely on simple Standard Deviation, which treats all price movements equally and reacts slowly to volatility spikes. The TCL Adaptive Super Bands upgrades this logic by using EWMA (Exponentially Weighted Moving Average) variance. This mimics how institutional algorithms track volatility, placing more weight on recent price action for a faster, smoother reaction.
The biggest killer of mean-reversion strategies is a strong trend that blasts through resistance. This indicator solves that using a multi-factor regime filter (ADX + R²):
The indicator also monitors the width of the bands relative to historical norms (Z-Score). When the bands compress significantly—indicating a coiled spring of potential energy—the Middle Line changes color (orange), signaling a Squeeze Mode. This alerts you that a massive volatility expansion (breakout) is imminent.
This tool is designed for precision Mean Reversion.
Sell Signal (Orange Arrow): Price pierces the Upper Band and rejects.
Buy Signal (Green Arrow): Price pierces the Lower Band and rejects.
These signals are strictly non-repainting and are confirmed at the close of the bar.
| Market Regime | ADX/R² Reading | What Happens | Trading Implication |
|---|---|---|---|
| Choppy/Ranging | Low ADX + Low R² | Bands widen (Range Boost) | Noise is filtered — false breakout signals blocked |
| Trending | High ADX + High R² | Bands tighten to hug price | True volatility channel visible — trend following |
| Squeeze | Z-Score < -1.0 | Middle line turns orange | Energy building — breakout imminent, prepare for explosive move |
| Post-Breakout | Rising ADX | Bands expand rapidly | Volatility expanding — ride the momentum |
| Feature | Standard Bollinger Bands | Adaptive Super Bands |
|---|---|---|
| Volatility model | Simple Standard Deviation | EWMA (Exponentially Weighted Moving Average) |
| Reaction speed | Slow — equal weight to all bars | Fast — recent bars weighted more heavily |
| Market regime awareness | None | ADX + R² regime filter (ranging vs trending) |
| Auto-adjustment | No — fixed multiplier | Yes — widens in ranges, tightens in trends |
| Squeeze detection | No | Yes — Z-Score based, middle line color change |
| Signal arrows | No | Yes — non-repainting buy/sell on bar close |
| Works without tweaking | Needs manual adjustment per market | Adaptive — works M1 to D1 without changes |
Pro Tip: When the middle line turns orange (Squeeze), don’t trade mean reversion — wait for the breakout. The squeeze signals that volatility has compressed to extreme levels and a massive move is coming. Combine with the TCL MTF Trend Blaster to determine the breakout direction using higher timeframe trends.

Everything you need to know about the product.
The middle line turns orange when the indicator detects a "Squeeze" (Z-Score < -1.0). This means volatility has dropped to extreme levels and a breakout is imminent — avoid mean reversion trades during this phase.
The bands and arrows do not repaint once the candle closes. The Squeeze color is based on a Z-Score of the past 100 bars — while the math is relative, the visual state is fixed upon close.
The arrows indicate mean reversion opportunities where price rejected the outer bands. In strong trends, use with caution or as "dip buying" opportunities. In ranging markets, they are excellent scalping signals.
The Regime Filter (ADX/R²) detected a choppy market. The indicator automatically widens the bands to contain the noise and prevent false breakout signals — this is a feature, not a bug.
Yes. The indicator uses Adaptive Volatility and EWMA memory, making it effective on everything from M1 scalping to Daily swing trading without manual tweaking.
EWMA (Exponentially Weighted Moving Average) places more weight on recent price action, reacting faster to volatility changes. Standard Deviation treats all bars equally, making it slow to respond to sudden market shifts — exactly when you need accuracy most.
ADX measures trend strength, R² measures trend quality (linearity). Together they detect whether the market is ranging or trending. In a range, the bands widen to filter noise. In a trend, they tighten to show the true volatility channel.
